Conor McGregor was in attendance and footage showed him laughing just moments after ‘Chaos” loss. Despite that, McGregor has denied laughing at Covington, claiming that two pieces of footage were stitched together by the broadcast.\n\nAnd despite Usman’s rivalry with the controversial American, he has now come out and defended the 38-year-old’s loss, saying that he went into Rosas Jr.’s world and it’s not what Covington is used to.\n\n“Okay but was it submission grappling?” Usman asked during the recent episode of the Pound 4 Pound podcast. “Yeah but that’s submission, though, against a guy that’s all mainly submission and especially when you’re going up against a little wirey guy like that, it’s difficult. I don’t excuse it by no means because you knew what you signed up for, but that’s not your world, and you’re going up against a guy that that’s his main thing. Raul is super tough on the ground… Of course that’s a problem. And he caught him off guard, you can tell by his face that he caught him off guard,” Usman continued.\n\nThere is a huge difference in the levels of Covington’s grappling credentials and Rosas Jr’s grappling credentials. The American was only given his jiu-jitsu black belt in 2023, but even that doesn’t mean he is a top level grappler. Covington’s background is wrestling, where he picked up NCAA Division 1 All-American honors.
